Focus and Scope

Messengers From the Stars: On Science Fiction and Fantasy is an Open Access international peer-reviewed journal published by ULICES (Univ. of Lisbon Centre for English Studies) at Universidade de Lisboa (Univ. of Lisbon).

Messengers from the Stars publishes articles focusing on science fiction and fantasy literature, artificial intelligences; comic Books/graphic novels; fantasy and science fiction on screen (cinema, Web, video games, etc…); television studies; among others. In addition to research articles, we invite texts from short overviews, essays, interviews, opinion pieces to academic book reviews. Each number will also include an original creative text (visual, literary, or other).

Peer Review Process

Contributions to Messengers from the Stars are first scanned by the editorial board to check the suitability of the proposal within the scope of the journal. If it is not, it is rejected. All papers are then evaluated through a blind peer review process. Most manuscripts will require revision before acceptance.

Publication and Open Access Policy

Messengers from the Stars is an online interdisciplinary journal published once a year.

The journal provides immediate open access to its contents. Once authors and copyright holders are accepted, they grant free, worldwide, perpetual right of access to, and a license to copy, use, distribute, transmit and display the work publicly and to make and distribute derivative works, subject to proper attribution of authorship.
